If you thought that the summer festivities in Whistler were over, think again! From September 11-16th, the Whistler Village Beer Festival returns to the Olympic Plaza with more beer-related events than ever before. Indulge in a variety of beers, delicious foods, and a great atmosphere, and celebrate the rich history of West Coast brewing. If you’re not ready to say goodbye to summer, here’s why you should definitely hit up the Whistler Village Beer Festival.
Coming into its 6th year, the WVBF is bigger and better than ever. This year the organizers have added a day to extend the festivities and cram in as many seminars, tasting sessions and signature events as possible. Overflowing with 65 breweries pouring 130+ styles of beer and cider, there’s something for every kind of brew lover.
BC has a historical love affair with craft beer – opening in 1982, Horseshoe Bay Brewery was Canada’s first ever microbrewery . Since then, we’ve had an explosion of microbreweries across BC that have changed the industry for good. At the WVBF, sample some of the best lagers, pilsners, stouts and pale ales from across the Sea-to-Sky corridor, the Okanagan and beyond. Each brewery brings along two of their best brews for you to try, so work your way round at a leisurely pace, make the most of the tasting sessions, and vote for your favourite flavour.
As if the beer wasn’t enough, across the 6 days there will be a number of local food vendors cooking up a mouth-watering selection of dishes. It’s a well-known fact that beer makes you hungry, so tuck in to a selection of noodles, European dishes, and of course a Canadian classic – poutine. With loads of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options there’s something for everyone. This year the WVBF also has many signature events and beer-infused evenings like the ‘Craft Cultures: Sea, Land, Sky’ event, so make sure to check the schedule for more tasty pairings.
What’s better than cracking open a cold one in the mountains? Held in the great outdoors, the Olympic Plaza is the perfect setting for one of Whistler’s best summer events. Add to that some amazing local artwork and awesome live music, and you’ve got yourself a party. Rain or shine, the WVBF crowd thrive on partying with friends, meeting new people and having a good time.
With beautiful scenery and (hopefully!) great weather, there really isn’t a more perfect place to host a festival. Plus, once the festival is over, it’s only a quick wander to the local bars and clubs where you can try out some of Whistler’s best nightlife and party like a local.
If you’re coming to the festival, we highly recommend that you extend your stay so you can rest and recover and give yourself plenty of time to explore all that Whistler has to offer.
