Why March is the Best Month to Ski Whistler

Want in on why March is one of the best months in Whistler for skiing and snowboarding? Listen in, because we have some local’s tips for you and why you should add March to the top of your list! From snowfall to après, the list is stout.

Average Snowfall

Don’t let the rising temperatures fool you, March can be an epic month for snowfall in Whistler! The average accumulation of snow is 68cm (26.8 inches) for the month of March, sometimes making it the biggest snowfall month of the year! Intermix this with warmer, bluebird days, and March can be the most magical time of year in Whistler.

Patio Season

Whistler’s world-class après scene goes year-round thanks to the magic of outdoor heaters and fire pits. However, March really kicks off the best time for patio season. The warmer temps mean skiing down to the Village after a big day on the mountain, de-layering, and soaking in the sun while you toast to the epic laps. Some of our favourite patios after a day on the hill are:

      • Upper Village – Handlebar for a slab (or two) of pizza and handcrafted beer.
      • Main Village – Dubh Linn Gate for one of the best patios at the base of Whistler Mountain. Serving up Irish dishes & hefty pints!
      • Main Village – Stinky’s on the Stroll for a local’s vibe, tater tots (yes, you must try them!), and delicious, locally sourced beer.

Longer Days

Ahhhh, daylight savings! After shorter days during the winter season, it’s the day we all look forward to. This not only means more sunshine and longer days to play outside, but Whistler Blackcomb changes their operating hours to match! Extending the day until 4 pm gives you even more time to ski and board all over the 8,171 acres of terrain. What’s even better, the mountain is still in full swing during March, with all gondolas open and running until the spring schedule hits on April 18th. This is the time of year when you can truly make the most of it all!
